Reflections on the Past Year

by Leave a Comment

As this year draws to a close, I join many others in looking to what lies ahead in the New Year.

However, I want to take a moment to think back on this past year.

Seed Starting - Seeds Finished Bed Building a Homestead

Although we have experienced both joy and sorrow, my husband and I can’t help but feel very blessed as we look back on all that has taken place.

In regards to this blog, I haven’t been very good at posting consistently. This homesteading dream, and desire to encourage you in yours, has grown into much more of a learning experience than I realized, and we’ve gone deeper than I ever imagined.

Homesteading and self-sufficiency go way beyond just the ability to plant crops, raise animals, and make things from scratch. Those aspects are important, but they are more superficial. Before a plant can grow and produce fruit, it needs a good root system in place. I feel like that is what has been happening this year in my life and homesteading journey, and what will continue to happen in 2016.

As I’ve delved deeper into using Young Living Essential Oils, I have an increased awareness of all the chemicals and toxins that our bodies are bombarded with on a daily basis. With that awareness, we’ve been removing most of our toxic cleaners and products and replacing them with Young Living’s products as well as other products that don’t contain those toxins and chemicals.

Then we learned about Brain Balance for our son. It was interesting to see how a lot of the information I was learning from my research with Young Living, was reiterated in Brain Balance. However, it gave me a better understanding of the importance of choosing the real food for my family. Even with the holidays, my children have consumed far less sugar then ever before. They consistently snack on nuts and raisins and have even chosen  real foods over junk foods.

We had even been doing really well at staying active and keeping the TV time to a minimum. However, I do have to confess that I’ve fallen into a lazy rut and have aloud too much television the last few weeks. We have also been less consistent with Daniel’s Brain Balance Exercises than we should be….

With all this said, I do hope to blog more consistently and take you through our root system. Maybe it will help strengthen your “WHY” for your homesteading dream.

♥ Nicole
