What’s a homestead without a garden?
Unless you are planning on living off of what grows wild on your property, I’m betting that you will be needing a garden.
Although there are some people who take very naturally to gardening, most of us don’t come with the knowledge of what it takes to plant and take care of crops. These are skills that are learned and perfected over time.
I want to encourage you to practice your gardening skills with whatever soil you have to work with. This may be one potted plant with your favorite herb, or a larger garden sporting a variety of vegetables.
If you are new to gardening, I encourage you to take it slow and learn a little more each year. This is what we’re doing. We started with strawberries and bush beans in two separate raised beds our first year, 2014. Our goal is to add to our garden and our skill set a little every year.
