I’ve always felt that the kitchen truly is the heart of the home. You could say it’s because I love to cook; however, I think it’s really due to the fact that a lot of great childhood memories were made in the kitchen.
Some memories are not so great, like when I was trying to make pan-fried fish on the stove and ended up burning it – it’s funny now. I have many more memories that are precious, like making cookies with my mom, or learning how to can peaches with my dad.
In learning new kitchen skills, I hope to also make new memories with my own children. I want to know these skills, so that I can teach my children and hopefully have a little fun in the process.
As with all of my skill lists, this list will hopefully continue to grow as I continue to learn the skills needed in a homesteader’s kitchen.
